WHYECOBORE?

My name is Conor Sherwood, and I started EcoBore Solutions because drilling has been my life for the best part of two decades. I grew up around machinery, spent my early years on sites learning from the ground up, and never really left. Over 18 years in the industry has taught me one thing above everything else — the ground doesn't lie, and neither should the people working on it.

I started out on standard rigs, cutting my teeth on water wells and site investigation work across the UK. Every site was a lesson: different geology, different clients, different problems to solve before the drill even turned. Over the years I worked my way through cable percussion, rotary geothermal drilling and piling.. drilling everything from retaining walls, underground foundations, shallow soakaways to deep closed-loop arrays for ground source heat pumps. Somewhere along the way I stopped counting boreholes — the number is now well past a thousand.

What changed things for me was watching the renewables industry come of age. I saw first-hand how much energy sits untouched below our feet, and how few contractors truly understood how to unlock it properly. Too many corners cut. Too many "cheap" boreholes that failed within a few winters. I wanted to build a company that did it the right way — the long way — and stood behind every metre of steel and grout that went in the ground.

So I built EcoBore around the values I was taught on site: turn up when you say you will, do the work properly, and leave the ground better than you found it. It's a family-run business by design. I wanted my name — and the names of the lads working with me — attached to every job. That's Robert and Karl steering the business alongside me, and Macauley running our field crews as Lead Driller. Between us we've got the experience, the kit and the mindset to take on any project that comes through the door.

Today we specialise in geothermal boreholes for ground source heating, private water wells, piling and soakaways — the full spectrum of specialist ground engineering. Whether it's a single-family home or a commercial development, my team treat every site like it's our own back garden.
